Latino/Spanish music, comes under many catorgories, such as Salsa, Samba and Latin freestyle, taking influences from various countries, predominantly Cuba, Central and South American Countries. Salsa is a dance-orientated genre, and is described as the "essential pulse of Latin music", being the most played style at Latin dance clubs. However, like most categories in the Latino genre, Salsa is mixed with other styles of music. It is a combination of Spanish and African music, adapted by Latin musicians with 'diverse musical tastes'. A salsa song begins with a 'songlike section', followed by vocals and interspersed with instrumentals and jazz solos. The percussion in a Latino song is the most important instrumentation and includes claves, cowbells, timbales and conga. The other core instruments are trumpets, trombones, bass and guitar, with usually minimal lyrics. |

Just like rap music has evolved over the years, similarly in time Reggaeton too is expected to establish itself completely and have a niche market dedicated to it. Already music companies and record labels all over the US and Latin America are scrambling for fresh talent and are looking to find the next big thing in the Reggaeton music scene. |

It's reggae. It's rap. It's muy caliente in the Midlands. Reggaeton, a Spanish version of hip-hop that features earthy stories and slang. With a push from MTV and the area's growing Latino population, the musical genre that originated in Latin America is one of the driving forces behind a resurgence of salsa clubs. The Spanish rap trend started in Panama just over a decade ago, then migrated to Puerto Rico, where it evolved into a gritty tropical fusion of reggae, salsa, merengue and urban hiphop music. |
